You want to change from winter tires to summer tires, and surprise you discover that their condition is unusable. What now? You already know that you need to invest in a new set, but which ones to choose, what to pay attention to? Specialist tests that are carried out every year by well-known automotive portals and magazines come to the rescue. In this post, we will present you the ADAC 2021 test results. What is ADAC?
ADAC stands for the German Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club. Automobilklub is the largest motorcycle association and the second largest automobile club in the world. It has over 17 million members , including over 1.5 million motorcyclists. It was founded in 1903 in Stuttgart and has been building its reputation ever since. ADAC is engaged in testing tires, new car models, car seats, roadside assistance, and prepares reports on road safety.
Test criteria.
ADAC tested 205/55 R16 and 225/50 R17 tires this year. The tires were subjected to standard braking tests on various types of surfaces, the effects on fuel consumption, tire life and driving comfort were examined. Each tire was tested for aquaplaning resistance. In each category, a grade was assigned (grade scale 0.6-5.5, the lower the number the better). 205/55 R16 summer tires test.
15 models of 205/55 R16 tires from various price segments and price ranges took part in the test. This size fits many compact car models or newer city cars. The first place was taken by Continental PremiumContact 6 with an overall rating of 2.2. The premium tire performed very well in wet conditions. The next places on the podium are Semperit Speed-Life 3 and Bridgestone Turanza T005. The first of these tires belongs to the economy segment. In this case, the Semperit Speed-Life 3 received the same main rating as the winner (2.2), but performed slightly worse in wet conditions. Bridgestone Turanza T005 earned the grade 2.3. The premium class tire received one of the highest marks in terms of its impact on fuel consumption. On the other hand, it did not perform well when it comes to noise generated while driving. The King Meiler Sport 1 tire was the worst tire in the tests.
And which tires were the best in each category ? Maxxis Premitra 5 (1.4) performs best on dry surfaces, and the above-mentioned winner of the general classification Continental PremiumContact 6 (1.8) on wet surfaces. The quietest tires are the Fulda EcoControl HP 2, Nokian Wetproof, Pirelli Cinturato P7 and Uniroyal RainSport 5 with a rating of 2.7. The Kumho Ecsta HS51 and BF Goodrich Advantage have the best results - 1.6 in the fuel consumption category. The Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 tire, on the other hand, left the competition behind when it comes to service life (0.6).

Test of 225/50 R17 summer tires.
17 tire models in size 225/50 R17 from various price segments and levels took part in the test. This size fits many middle class cars. Which tires topped the ranking? Falken Azenis FK510 with an overall rating of 2.1. Continental PremiumContact 6 was in second place and it was rated at 2.2. Third place went to the Kumho Ecsta PS71 for an average rating of 2.3. The last 17th place in the ranking was taken by the Firestone Roadhawk (4.9). The Falken Azenis FK510 was very well rated in the wet road category and turned out to be one of the quietest. The tires fared well when it comes to durability and driving on a dry surface. The Continental PremiumContact 6 model performs particularly well against wet surfaces, it also stands out on a dry road. Very well rated in the fuel consumption impact category. The Kumho Ecsta PS71 is a model that, above all, is the best at aquaplaning, but also offers a short braking distance on a dry surface.
