ET calculator for aluminum rims. Check out the new tool from LadneFelgi.pl
Aluminum rims are a key element of a car's aesthetics. One of the parameters to pay attention to when choosing rims is ET, i.e. rim offset. Offset ET describes the distance between the center of the rim and the wheel mounting plane. Next to the rim diameter, this is a key element that determines how deep the rim and the entire wheel will be placed in the wheel arch. Not only the aesthetics of our car, but also its handling, stability and tire wear depend on the correct selection of ET. An incorrectly selected rim may lead to friction against wheel arches or suspension elements, or may protrude beyond the outline of the car, which is against applicable law. Our new tool - the ET calculator will help you avoid these problems.
Graphical rim ET calculator.
The ET calculator has been designed to graphically illustrate the relationship between the reference rim and the new rim . Just enter the width in inches, ET in millimeters and, optionally, the distance of your current alloy rim and the rim you intend to buy in the appropriate places. The graphic will present the position of the new rim in the wheel arch and you will be able to read the values in millimeters by how much more or less the new rim will be extended compared to the reference one and how much closer or farther it will be from the suspension and brake calipers.
This is a simple tool that can save you a lot of problems related to incorrect selection of rims for your car. The ET calculator also prevents errors when manually calculating the position of the rim in the wheel arch. Use our ET calculator for aluminum rims and get accurate information in just a few seconds!
Rim offset calculator - instructions for use.
Using the ET calculator is intuitive and simple. To use the calculator, simply enter:
- Width of the reference rim in inches.
- Offset ET of the reference rim in millimeters.
- Distance in millimeters, if used.
- The width of the new rim in inches.
- Offset ET of the new rim in millimeters.
- Distance in millimeters, if used.
How to read the markings on rims and where to look for them? In the case of aluminum rims, they are located on the inside of the rim, usually one of the spokes. In the case of steel rims, the parameters are stamped on the front of the rim.
For example, the standard aluminum rim that you currently have on your car is 7" wide and has an offset of ET35. You found a new rim that you like, but with different parameters than the reference one, e.g. 8" and ET55. Based on the entered data, the calculator will automatically calculate the result and present it . From the outside, the new rim will be 7.5 mm deeper and from the inside 32.5 mm closer to the suspension elements than the standard alloy rim.
What is the ET tolerance?
Experts working at LadneFelgi.pl inform that moving the rim outwards by 10 mm - 15 mm is a safe margin . It is worth remembering a few exceptions here. For example, in the case of tuned cars, with unusual suspension, or super sports cars such as the Audi RS or BMW M5, it is worth consulting the choice of ET with our store staff to make sure that the choice is the best for a given model.
A wheel protruding beyond the outline of the vehicle - what are the regulations?
In Poland, as in most European countries, there are regulations regarding the protrusion of vehicle wheels beyond the outline of the body. In accordance with Polish legal regulations, the vehicle's wheels (including rims and tires) cannot protrude beyond the outline of the body . This is related to road safety and the protection of other road users - wheels protruding beyond the outline of the body may pose a threat to pedestrians and other vehicles. If you plan to make changes to your vehicle that may cause the wheels to protrude beyond the outline of the car, this may result in failure to pass the MOT and fines .
To sum up, the alloy wheel ET calculator is a very useful tool for both amateurs and professionals. It is intuitive and easy to use. It is useful when replacing rims with new ones, as it helps ensure that the new wheels will not only fit, but also meet the aesthetic preferences of the driver.
